Dynamic DNS Server Client
Assigning a logical internet IP
address to a Cetan Nagin - Shadow Hawk Remote Signals and
Communications System's computer allows the computer and associated
remote radio receivers to be accessed over the internet via a logical
address. We at Cetan Nagin prefer ease of use of logical IP
addresses over absolute numerical internet IP addresses. The Cetan
Nagin user can access the Cetan Nagin's computer over the internet with
an absolute IP address if desired.
Static or Fixed internet IP address
do not exist in many locations Cetan Nagin is deployed to. Also,
in many locations, the increased cost of using static or fixed internet
IP address is prohibitive. With dynamic ip addresses there is no
stable internet IP address to connect too. The Internet Service
Provider can change
the dynamic IP addresses at will. If you do not have a static internet IP address at the
remote radio receiver location, you must use
a dynamic DNS
client/server to obtain the ip address of the remote receiver. At Cetan
Nagin we use http://www.dyndns.com/ .
The price is right - first five are free (per user
email address).
Dynamic DNS (or any other dynamic DNS
providers) provide a
software client program which resides on the remote radio receiver's
computer. The remote radio receivers client program transmits the
remote radio receiver's IP address to the dynamic DNS
server. Each
remote radio receiver's computer is assigned it's own domain
name on the dynamic DNS server.
It connects to the service provider's systems and causes those systems
to link the discovered dynamic IP address with a hostname in the domain
name system. Depending on the provider, the hostname is registered
within a domain owned by the provider or the customer's own domain
name.

First; you must become "registered" at the dynamic DNS address provider
(in our case DynDNS.com). You also can operate your own dynamic
DNS server if desired. Dynamic DNS servers are available for free
down loading on www.sourceforge.net.
Click on "Get a free domain name" to start the registration process on
theDynDNS.com dynamic DNS server.

Click on the "Dynamic DNS Free (DDNS)" to start the creation of you
dynamic DNS address.

Getting Started
|
|
Click on the "Next" button to start the dynamic DNS registration
process.

Select your hostname -
ID and dynamic DNS extension
|
|
- Enter the desired host name *your
desired internet address or domain name".
- Select the desired dynamic DNS
extension
|
|
Enter your present internet IP address for
initial synchronization
|
|
- Click on "Use auto detected IP
address
xx.xx.xxx.xx" to assign an ip address to the dynamic DNS address.
(This is only temporary - The ip address will be automatically updated
when
the dynamic DNS client is enabled on the host machine).
- Do not click on TTL value to
change the ip
address update rate. You will exceed the maximum allowable ip
address
updates for a year. The ip address will not update for the later
hours in the day..
